A WARM AND HEARTFELT GOODBYE TO A GOOD MAN:
Uncle Akinola as I called him was a delightful man to be with. He was one of the most unassuming people I have ever met, always amiable and welcoming to everyone who entered his house or ran into him anywhere.
I got to know Uncle Akinola from my university days as I usually would go on holiday to my Uncle’s house in Port Harcourt. He was my next-door neighbour and what a great neighbour he was. He opened his home to me. Uncle Akinola, the always unassuming would make me feel at home. His children had this same nature and as a result they became my friends, and I took them as family. Once I got into Port Harcourt the next thing was to head to his place to say hello.
I got to realise how much of a heart of gold Uncle Akinola had. In Uncles house there was no difference between his children and every other person who was living with him. He really knew how to make one feel accepted and comfortable. That trait amongst others that I learnt from him, I can comfortably say has stayed with me till today.
I remember how you would objectively mediate between families and friends whenever they ran into trouble or had misunderstandings. You were always fair and honest in your assessment of situations. You are truly God sent to your generation.
Thank you for all the life lessons I received just watching you live your own life. You were a good man.
Adieu Uncle. May your soul rest in perfect peace with God.
Your friend,
Ikemefuna (Iykeman).
